In celebration of #GivingTuesday we gave 35 people the gift of haircutting/barber services at the Salvation Army Garden Center, a family shelter in Oakland. Volunteer stylists brought their big hearts and skills to bring smiles to children, women and men living in shelters.
Services included haircuts, beard trims, styling long hair with waves, manicures, and even twists. We welcomed some new faces: Sabrina created a total transformation on one of our guests, our volunteer check-in point person (who also brought tangerines and brownies to share) and photographer Holiday Hagan who captured some behind the scene shots.
We also received wonderful donations from Jenifer Akagi (77 Salon Inc in Oakland), Annie Aieta (Rare Byrd Salon in Walnut Creek), and Kanako Otani from Las Vegas (our social media volunteer).
This #GivingTuesday 2018, we received enough donations to serve 57 more guests at future events! And as if that wasn’t enough to fill our hearts KCBS radio surprised us with a visit to do a feature on our work in the community.
